Men's hoops signs JUCO guard

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston State men's basketball coach Jason Hooten has announced the signing of junior college transfer Javion May for the 2020-21 season.

May is a 6-2 guard from Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas. The Chicago native averaged 11.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 31 games this past season on his way to being an honorable-mention selection on the All-Kansas Jayhawks Community College Conference West team.

"Javion fills out our last scholarship for this upcoming season," Hooten said. "He is a multi-dimensional guard who will bring a high level of toughness to our program. Javion can be an elite defender and a player that can really get to the basket. We're also excited about his past success as a student-athlete and just his overall fit into our culture here at Sam Houston State."

May, who was second on the team in field goal percentage at 55.1 percent, helped guide Colby College to its best season in school history. The Trojans went 27-5 and won their first conference title.

Colby earned its first-ever appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament before the season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
