NEW ORLEANS — Sam Houston State junior pole vaulter Clayton Fritsch has earned All-America honors for the 2020 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field season from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced Tuesday.
Â
Fritsch was set to compete in the 2020 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships before the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic in March. He was seeded eighth with a height of 5.55 meters, which he reached at the Texas A&M Invitational on Feb. 22.
Â
It was the second time Fritsch qualified for the NCAA indoor championships.
Â
The USTFCCCA changed its criteria for All-America selections, which in the past has been based on performance, due to the cancellation of the indoor championships. For the 2020 season only, every student-athlete who was listed on the startsheet at the NCAA meet was recognized.
