On Aug. 31, 2003, the Sam Houston State soccer team made history in impressive fashion.
Â
The Bearkats picked up their first win in program history in the team's inaugural season with a 17-0 victory over Texas Southern at Pritchett Field. The 17 goals are the second most in school history, standing only behind the 23 goals the team scored the following year against Texas Southern.
Sam Houston State scored quickly and often with Katy Harris finding the back of the net a minute and a half into the match. The Bearkats would go on to score seven more goals to take an 8-0 lead into halftime.
Eight different SHSU players scored in the lopsided victory led by Harris, Tynice Friday and Liz McDonald who each scored three goals. Ashley Solmonson, Stacy Smith and Adrienne Monroe each scored two and Kelli Bateman and Kim Brown each added a goal.
