The Sam Houston State volleyball team got off to a roaring start to Southland Conference play in 2013.

Deveney Wells-Gibson totaled 20 kills in 47 attempts to lead the Bearkats to a three-set victory over Houston Baptist on Sept. 28 at Johnson Coliseum to extend Sam Houston's SLC record to a perfect 5-0.

Carling Urben and Haley Neisler both totaled seven kills for the Kats. Shelby Genung had five and Krista Koopman and Lauren Bohlen each added four kills.

Tayler Gray assisted on 44 of Sam Houston's 48 kills and totaled 12 digs. Brenna Homer led the Kat defense with 22 digs.

Each of Sam Houston's five conference victories were in straight sets.
