Fritsch takes first at Houston meet

HOUSTON — Sam Houston junior Clayton Fritsch placed first in the pole vault at the H-Town SpeedCity Series meet at the Yeoman Fieldhouse.

Fritsch topped the second-place finisher by close to four inches with a mark of 5.35 meters, or 17 feet, 6 ½ inches. Christyan Sampy of Houston placed second with a mark of 5.25 meters.

This is the second meet this season Fritsch has posted the top height in the pole vault. He placed first at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station on Jan. 16 with a jump of 5.41 meters, or 17 feet, 9 inches to earn Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
