BEAUMONT – The Sam Houston volleyball team took care of business in speedy fashion on Thursday night, sweeping by Lamar, 3-0, at McDonald Gym.
The Kats (11-5, 4-0 WAC) remained the lone unbeaten team in WAC play, picking up their sixth win in a row in the series over the Cardinals (4-14, 0-4 WAC). They will look to stay atop the WAC standings on Saturday when they travel to UTRGV for a 2:00 p.m. match with the Vaqueros on ESPN+.
Ashley Lewis led three Bearkats in double figures with an efficient night that included 13 kills on 31 tries (.228) and 10 digs, pacing a Sam Houston attack that hit .212 for the match.
Breanne Chausse joined her with a 12-kill, 10-dig double-double and
Catherine Krieger hit .222 with 11 scores.
Morgan Janda continued her strong play with 36 assists and nine digs, while also adding three kills and three blocks apiece, helping Sam Houston hold Lamar to just .107 attacking.
The Kats finished with 50 digs to just 41 for the Cardinals with
Hannah Baker setting the pace with a dozen digs, reaching double figures for the 14
th consecutive match.
