16 Bearkats to be inducted into Hall of Honor

This year's induction class for the Hall of Honor will have a different look to it than in year's past. Namely, it's much bigger. With no ceremony held last season, the 2020 and 2021 classes will be inducted on Nov. 13 and recognized during the football game that day.

The 2020 class has nine members earning induction with two from baseball, football and tennis. The 2021 class has six athletes and one coach entering the Hall of Honor. This will be the most members inducted during a single ceremony.

"It's always special to bring back athletes who competed for us at the highest level," said Director of Athletics Bobby Williams. "We missed not being able to have this ceremony last season, but look forward to introducing 16 new names to the Hall of Honor this time around."


Hall of Honor Class 2020:
Brian Gaffney – Baseball (1995-1998) Gaffney was a second team all-Southland selection in 1998 and was named to the Southland All-Tournament team in 1996. He's fifth all time in career assists.

Doyle Campbell - Baseball (1974-1977) – NAIA 2^nd team All-American in 1975. Led team in home runs in 1975 and RBIs in 1977.

Mike Ober - Football (1986-1989) – 1988 Second Team All-Southland, 1989 First Team All-Southland. Invited to 1989 Senior Bowl. Led Team in sacks and tackles for a loss in 1989.

Tommy Taylor - Golf (1978-1982) – 1982 NAIA All-American. 1980 and 1982 1sr Team All-Lone Star Conference. Won 1982 Lone Star Conference Individual Championship. 3-time member of NAIA National Championship squad.

Roger McAdams - Football/Basketball (1931-1934) – 1933 1^st Team All-Lone Star Conference for football. 1934 1^st Team All-Lone Star Conference for basketball.

Cathy Hooks - Women's Basketball (1976-1980) – 18^th all-time in career scoring. 9^th all-time in career field goals made. 4^th all-time in career games played.

Tisha Hopkins – Volleyball (1992-1993) – 1993 NCAA All-Region Team. 1993 1^st Team All-Southland. 1992 and 1993 team leader in hitting percentage and 1993 leader in blocks. 2^nd all-time in career hitting percentage.

Peta Taylor – Tennis (2006-2009) – 4-time All-Southland Selection including 1^st-team doubles in 2008 and 2009. 2009 2^nd Team All-Southland singles. 8^th all-time in singles wins and winning percentage. 4^th all-time in Southland Conference singles wins.2^ndall-time in career dual match doubles victories. 1^st all-time in total double victories.

Irina Sotnikova – Tennis (2006-2009) – 2009 Southland Conference Player of the year and Student Athlete of the Year. 5-tiime All-Southland selection, including four 1^st Team honors. 3-time Southland All-Academic selection. Most overall singles wins in a career in Sam Houston history. 2^nd in Total Dual Match wins and winning percentage. Most Southland Conference wins in school history. 1^st All-time in doubles victories four dual match and Southland Conference.

Hall of Honor Class 2021:
Michael Courtney – Track (2006-2010) – 2010 Indoor NCAA All-American. Finished 4^th at 2010 Indoor Championship in 400. 2-time indoor championship and 5-tiime indoor All-Southland. 8-time All-Southland Outdoor including 7 1st Team selections. 19^that NCAA Outdoor Championship.

Blake Martin – Football (2004-2007) – 2007 First Team All-American (AP and CSN). 2006 and 2007 1^st Team All-Southland Conference. As tight end led team in receiving in 2006 and 2007.

Jerry Register - Baseball (1962-1965) – 1964 NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Led team in batting average in 1964

Tiana Lee - Track & Field (2006-2009) – 3-time Indoor All-Southland Selection. 3-time Outdoor Southland Conference Champion and 7-tiime All-Southland selection.

Monica Barajas – Volleyball (1992-1995) – 1994 2^nd Team All-Southland. 1995 1^st Team All-Southland. Led Team in kills, blocks and digs in 1995. Ranks 16^th all-time in career kills at Sam Houston. 19^th all-time in career blocks.

Danya Galganski – Bowling (2010-2012) – Member of first bowling team in 2010. Two time NTCA All-American. Led team in scoring average in 2011. Member of first NCAA team to make NCAA Championships in inaugural year of program.

John Lumley - Head Track Coach/Administrator – Head Track and Field Coach from 1989-1998. Assistant Athletic Director from 1998-2003. Was a two-time Southland Conference Coach of the Year.
