HUNTSVILLE — Brooke Jones made sure senior day was all smiles for the Sam Houston soccer team.
 
The junior from Aledo scored the game-winning goal in the second half to lift the Bearkats (6-8 overall, 4-3 in WAC) to a 1-0 victory over UTRGV on Sunday at Prichett Field.
 
Both teams had several scoring opportunities throughout the match, but neither could break through. That is until Jones put Sam Houston on top for good in the 77^th minute.
 
Katarina Baehren played the ball forward into the box, and Jones dribbled to the middle and fired a shot with her left foot past the goalkeeper on the left side of the goal to break the scoreless tie.
 
The Bearkat defense was able to hold the Vaqueros at bay in the final 20 minutes to seal the victory.
 
Senior goalkeeper Abby DeLozier finished with five saves to record her seventh career shutout.
 
Sam Houston will hit the road next weekend to face Abilene Christian on Friday and Chicago State on Oct. 24.
