Bearkats improve to 2-0 in WAC play

HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston volleyball team rallied from 10 points down in the third set to complete the sweep of Abilene Christian at Johnson Coliseum on Saturday.

Down 20-10, the Bearkats (9-5, 2-0 WAC) forced some errors and cut the lead to 20-16 after a pair of kills by De'Janae Gilmore and an ace by Hannah Baker. Sam Houston eventually pulled even with ACU (6-7, 0-2) at 23 on an ace by Ashley Lewis and finished the match with points from a bad set and an attack error.

The Bearkats were in control from the start to go up 2-0 and put the Wildcats in an early hole.

Breanne Chausse wasted no time notching her 1,000th career kill, scoring on the first play of the match. Lewis, Catherine Krieger and Gilmore all had three kills and Morgan Janda had nine assists in the 25-18 win.

The second set played out just like the first. Krieger led the way with six kills as the Bearkats jumped out to a quick lead and won the set 25-16 with Janda directing the offense with 15 assists.
