HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston volleyball team smothered Lamar, sweeping the Cardinals in three sets while honoring seniors

Breanne Chausse on senior day at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The first set was tightly contested throughout, with Lamar (4-19, 0-9 WAC) holding a 22-20 lead late.
The Kats (15-7, 8-2 WAC) reeled off a 5-0 run to take the set with sophomore
Catherine Krieger notching three kills in the run to give the Kats the 1-0 lead in the match.
Sets 2 and 3 were much different as Sam Houston never trailed throughout the second and trailed 4-3 early in set three before taking over and never looking back.
In Set 3 Lamar went on a 4-0 run with Grace Nichols getting one of her team high 8 kills to cut the Bearkat advantage to 17-16. Following that Lewis had a kill and a service ace back-to-back to ignite a 6-0 Bearkat run that helped push the Kats to a match win.
Sam Houston hit .254% on 114 attacks on the match, compared to .119% on 118 attacks from Lamar. The sweep was the Kats seventh sweep on the season.
Lewis finished with a team high 14 kills and 12 digs to finish with a double-double.
Chausse poured in 9 kills to go with 12 digs and junior Morgan Jada put up 34 assists and a season high 6 blocks.
