HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women's basketball team set a new program on Monday night, blasting Arlington Baptist, 132-55, at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The Kats (5-6) put seven players in double figures against the Patriots, with both Madelyn Batista (23 points, 11 rebounds) and Kaylee Jefferson (17 points, 11 rebounds) picking up double-doubles.
Faith Cook led all players with 24 points , while Damaya Telemaque (18 points), LeAndra Echi (15 points), Deondra Young (12 points) and Sydnee Kemp (10 points) all reached double figures as well.
The 132 points surpassed the previous program record of 128 points scored against UT Pan American in the 1987-88 season, while the 77-point margin of victory was the second most, only trailing the 80-point margin of victory from that same game vs UTPA.
Sam Houston scored no less than 30 points in any of the four quarters and forced 32 turnovers, owning a 43-2 scoring margin in points off turnovers.
The win puts an end to the Bearkats' non-conference slate. They will begin WAC play on December 30 at Lamar in a game set to be streamed on ESPN+.
