SAN MARCOS — The Sam Houston softball team dropped a pair of road games against BYU and Texas State at Bobcat Softball Stadium on Wednesday.
The Bearkats (3-11) managed two hits in a 6-0 loss to the Bobcats in the night cap. Freshman EllIe Grill hit a two-out single in the first inning and junior
Sheridan Fisher singled in the third.
Texas State scored two runs in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Bearkats will open Southland Conference play this weekend at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday beginning at noon and play a single game Saturday at noon.
BYU 12, Sam Houston 2 (5 innings)
Sam Houston scored two runs in the first inning, but BYU exploded for 10 runs in the fourth to hand the Bearkats a 12-2 loss at Bobcat Softball Complex.

Emily Telg led the game off with a single and junior
Sheridan Fisher followed with a walk. Both runners advanced on a groundout by senior
Megan McDonald.
Sam Houston struck first when freshman Elle Grill laced a double into left center field for a pair of RBI and the early lead.
The Cougars tied the game with two runs in the third before taking the lead by scoring 10 runs off six hits in the fourth.
