Kats roll by Nicholls for ninth straight win

THIBODAUX, La. – The Sam Houston volleyball team continued its win streak on Saturday morning, picking up its ninth win in a row by sweeping its way past Nicholls at Stopher Gym to stay atop the league standings.

The Kats' (9-1, 9-1 SLC) wins this week not only clinched a spot in the Southland Tournamet, but also sets the stage for a premier matchup on Thursday in Huntsville when Sam Houston hosts rival and fellow league-leader Stephen F. Austin in the only meeting between the teams scheduled this season.

The game is set for first serve at 6:30 p.m. from Johnson Coliseum and will be aired on ESPN+.

Sam Houston did not waste time on Saturday morning, hitting. 343 in the opening set and .227 for the match in taking care of the Colonels in less than 90 minutes. Breanne Chausse (11 kills) and Ashley Lewis (10 kills) each reached double figures while Lewis picked up a double-double by adding 18 digs to her total.

Hannah Baker's 21 digs led the Kats, while De'Janae Gilmore picked up four blocks to go with six kills on 12 attacks. McKenzie Morvant did not have a misfire in her 16 swings, connecting for seven kills with a hand in three of the Kats' seven blocks.

Morgan Janda continued to play well all the way around with 18 assists and 14 digs and Madilyn Miles also picked up a dozen assists.
