HUNTSVILLE. — The Sam Houston volleyball team returns to Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum this weekend to host Jacksonville State in a two-match Conference USA series. Â
Sam Houston enters the weekend with a 14-9 overall record and a 5-5 mark in conference play. The Bearkats look to rebound after dropping both matches against Liberty last weekend and regain momentum as the conference schedule continues. Jacksonville State enters the series at 3-19 overall and 0-10 in CUSA after a pair of losses to Florida International.Â
Sophomore outside hitter Chloe Monson leads the Bearkats offensively with 319 kills and averages 3.67 kills per set. Bella Wood follows with 229 kills, while Chelsea Butler has added 189. Butler has been an efficient presence at the net, hitting .315 this season, while middle blocker Rachelle Reed leads the team with 105 total blocks.Â
Sam Houston's defense is anchored by junior libero Shaelin White, who leads the team with 393 digs. White also has recorded 132 assists, contributing to the Bearkats' transition from defense to offense. Setters Brenlin Garlitz and Lauren Pyle have guided the attack with 465 and 399 assists, respectively.Â
Jacksonville State enters the weekend looking to end a 10-match losing streak in conference play. The Gamecocks have struggled offensively this season, posting a .136 hitting percentage while allowing opponents to hit .264. Sam Houston will look to capitalize on those opportunities by maintaining pressure at the service line and controlling the net.Â
Sam Houston starts the weekend on Friday evening at 6 p.m. followed by a Saturday midday match up at 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and can also be followed on live stats. Â
