Ezzard named SLC Special Teams Player of the Week

FRISCO – After another huge week, Sam Houston wide receiver Jequez Ezzard has been named the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, per a release by league officials on Monday morning.

The honor comes a week after Ezzard was named the SLC Offensive Player of the Week after his outburst in a win over No. 7 Nicholls on March 13.

Ezzard is quickly making his case as not only the most exciting player in the Southland, but one of the most dynamic and exciting players in all of the FCS this spring. The grad transfer from Howard turned in another massive day in the No. 7 Bearkats' win at Lamar, making an impact on offense and on special teams.

After having just hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Eric Schmid on the first play of the second quarter and following a quick stop by the Bearkat defense, Ezzard returned a punt 80 yards for a score to up the SHSU lead to 21-0, the first punt return for a score for the Bearkats since 2017.
In all, Ezzard finished with 230 all-purpose yards against the Cardinals and three scores in less than three quarters of work. For the season he has racked up 507 all-purpose yards and six touchdowns, averaging a gaudy 29.8 yards per touch.
