Bearkats impress at Victor Lopez Classic

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston men's and women's track and field teams had four first place finishes at the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice Saturday.

Sylvia Freeman won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.61, and Kimberly Carr placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:02.08. The 4x400 relay team of Carr, Freeman and Jasmin Mitchell took first with a time of 3:52.29.

Nathaniel McRae took top honors in the men's 200 with a time of 21.24. Andrew Bosquez captured the top time in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:33.41.

Top performers for the women included Baylee Lora who was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.39. Tytiania Morrison was sixth (15.39) and Alie Angelo (15.49), Carr (15.54) and Makenna Schroeder (15.88) placed eighth, ninth and 10th.

Haviland Harris was third in the 400 hurdles at 1:04.82, and Morrison was fifth at 1:08.64.

Rebeca Gonzalez placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run, and Cryslan Tucker finished fifth in the 5,000.
Â
Mitchell was fifth in the 200 at 25.07, and Jemia Goree was eighth at 25.30.

Goree and Freeman finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400 with times of 57.50 and 57.81, while Mitchell came in seventh at 58.92.

In the field events, KeAyla Dove turned in a second-place performance in the shot put with a throw of 14.80 meters, and Charlee Salinas was fourth with a mark of 13.67. Dove was also fifth in the discus with a distance of 44.29 meters, while Salinas placed 10th at 38.58.

Shaynea Redmond placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.61 meters, and Alie Angelo was 10th at 5.24 meters. Bailey Cotton came in ninth in the pole vault with a height of 3.51 meters.

Rachel Smith came in seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.06 meters.

Other top finishers on the men's side included Erin Brown, who was second in the 200 at 21.66. Cameron Brown was fourth at 21.86 and Elijah Simpson was eighth at 22.61.

McRae and Brown finished second and third in the 400 with times of 47.96 and 48.79, respectively. Brown came in fifth at 49.07.

Joe Austin III placed second in the 800 meters with a mark of 1:52.87, and Dalton Page came in sixth at 1:56.11.

Tanner Day was sixth in the 110 hurdles, and Bryce Barbay was eighth at 16.35. Nick Palutis was ninth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.07.

Sergio Armendariz finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:04.64.

In men's field events, Cobe Graham placed second in the shot put with a distance of 17.09 meters, and Kevin Kindt was seventh at 15.36.
