HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston volleyball picked up its seventh win in a row on Tuesday night, running past UIW, 3-1, at Johnson Coliseum.
Â
Ashley Lewis, fresh off her second SLC Offensive Player of the Week honor given out earlier in the day, picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 14 digs to lead three Bearkats (7-1, 7-1 SLC) in double-figure kills on a night that saw SHSU hit .210 as a team.
Â
Sam Houston rolled by the Cardinals (2-7, 2-5 SLC) by a 25-15 margin in the first set, but the rest did not come so easily as UIW stole the second set before the Kats put the hammer down in each of the final two.
Â
The Kats did much of their damage at the net with 12.0 team blocks helping hold the Cardinals to just .113 hitting in the match.
Â
Breanne Chausse joined Lewis in double figures with 11 kills while De'Janae Gilmore turnd in a big match with 10 kills and six blocks. McKenzie Morvant nearly matched her with nine kills and six blocks Catherine Krieger had a career-high six assists to go with eight kills and eight digs.
Â
Morgan Janda picked up another double-double with 34 assists and 13 digs and fellow setter Madilyn Miles added 11 digs and four kills along with nine assists. Freshman Hannah Baker led the team with 18 digs.
Â
The Kats will get an extended break without another match on the schedule until March 18 at McNeese.
