Cowser named SLC Hitter of the Week

FRISCO – Sam Houston outfielder Colton Cowser was named the SLC Hitter of the Week for the second time this season on Monday, per a release from league officials.

After a slow start to the season, it's fair to say that Cowser has returned to full form midway through Southland play. The Cy Ranch product homered in each of the first four games of the week, leading the Kats to a midweek win over Texas A&M and a split of a 4-game series on the road in New Orleans.

He had at least 1 RBI in all 5 games, including a trio of 3-RBI games and had 3 of his 6 walks be issued intentionally. Cowser homered in the first inning against Texas A&M and added a single later in the game before Aggie head coach Rob Childress intentionally walked him in his final two at-bats.

He then hit a 3-run homer in the series opener vs New Orleans and reached 5 times in the second game, scoring 3 times with a homer, three RBI and a stolen base. He was huge in Saturday's slugfest, reaching each of his first 5 times at the plate and finishing with another homer, 3 runs scored, 3 RBI and another steal.

Cowser was finally held without a hit in the series finale, but still managed to reach base twice and picked up an RBI to help the Kats get out of town on a winning note. Since the start of SLC play, Cowser is hitting .371 with an .871 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage. He leads the league in SLC-only games with 24 runs scored, 11 home runs and 28 RBI.

The Kats are back at Don Sanders Stadium on Tuesday when they host Baylor before hosting a 4-game series with McNeese beginning Friday.
