Lewis earns AVCA all-region honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sam Houston outside hitter Ashley Lewis added another honor to her resume on Tuesday when she was named as an honorable mention selection to the AVCA All-Southwest Region team.

The win just adds to Lewis' stellar line from the Spring 2021 season that saw the Bearkats finish second in the Southland Conference and advance to the title match of the Southland Tournament.

She became the fourth Bearkat to be named the Southland Conference Player of the Year after leading the Kats and ranking in the upper portion of players in the nation with 4.36 kills per set. She swung at a career-best .209 clip and also averaged 3.54 digs per set in 14 matches, finishing with 11 double-doubles.

Lewis was twice named the league's offensive player of the week and was named to the all-tournament at the Southland Tournament after averaging 4.33 kills and 3.33 digs per set in two matches, including 20 kills and 13 digs in the title match vs A&M-Corpus Christi.
