Louisiana pulls away from Kats for 8-3 win

HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston softball team held its own against No. 16 Louisiana, but a three-run sixth inning allowed the Ragin' Cajuns to pull away for an 8-3 victory at Bearkat Softball Complex Tuesday.

The Bearkats (8-21) rallied from a three-run deficit in the third inning to tie the game.

Sam Houston got two runs back in the bottom of the third when junior Sheridan Fisher and senior Megan McDonald, who recorded her 200th career hit, both singled and came around to score when sophomore Kyndal Kutac reached on a fielding error by the shortstop.

Freshman Taylor Bachmeyer tied the game at 3 with a home run down the left-field line. It was her first collegiate hit.

Louisiana 28-6 broke the tie with a run in the fifth, added the three insurance runs in the sixth and tacked on one in the seventh to seal the victory.

Regan Dunn took the loss in the circle to fall to 4-6 on the season. Summer Ellyson got the win for the Ragin' Cajuns to improve to 10-4 on the year.

The Bearkats return to action with a three-game Southland Conference series on the road at Abilene Christian on Friday and Saturday.
