Kats wrap up day 2 at SLC championships

HUMBLE — The Sam Houston men's and women's track and field teams won three more medals at the 2021 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships Saturday at Turner Stadium.

Clayton Fritsch placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 5.56 meters to notch eight points for the men, and Cobe Graham also won the silver in the shot put with a toss of 16.98.

KeAyla Dove broke the school record with a throw of 16.16 meters to win the bronze in the shot put and earn six points for the women.

Alie Angelo set a personal best in the heptathlon 800 meters and placed sixth overall to score three points for the women.

On the men's side, Zachary Johnson finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 15.35 meters to earn four points, while Joshua Hamilton placed eighth with a leap of 14.74 to earn one point.

Brian Orlando placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 15.58. Rylan Olguin was sixth in the pole vault with a height of 4.81 meters for three points, and Tanner Day placed seventh in the decathlon to earn two points.

The women stand in seventh place with 15 points through nine events, while the men are currently in fourth with 39 points.
