Morvant named WAC Defensive Player of the Week

DENVER, Colo. - Sam Houston middle blocker McKenzie Morvant was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, per a release from league officials.Â
Morvant, a freshman from Deer Park, came away from the weekend averaging 1.38 blocks per set after posting 22 total blocks to lead Sam Houston through the Bearkat Invitational with a 4-0 record. She turned in five kills and four blocks in a season-opening sweep of Houston Baptist on Friday before adding six kills to a career-high nine blocks in a sweep of San Diego State later in the day.
She followed that up with three blocks and eight kills in another win over San Diego State on Saturday before totaling six more blocks in a win over Houston Baptist.
After just one weekend, her numbers are good for second in the WAC in total blocks and fourth in blocks per set.Â
Moravnt and the Bearkats will next travel to Arlington for three matches this weekend vs Tulsa, North Texas and UT Arlington at the Maverick Classic beginning Friday at the College Park Center.
