Sept. 16 Championship Celebration UPDATE

HUNTSVILLE - The public celebration ceremony recognizing the Sam Houston football team's national championship is being reevaluated and will not occur on Sept. 16.Â

With the current safety protocols that are in place for the football team and staff, and a delay in receiving the championship rings, it was deemed that the timing for large-scale celebration was not appropriate.Â
Â
A recognition of the team's accomplishment the past spring, including an unveiling of the ring design will be released at a later time.Â

The top-ranked Bearkats will play their home opener on Saturday at 6 p.m. against Southeast Missouri. It will be aired on ESPN+.Â
