HOUSTON - The Rice Owls swpe their way past the Sam Houston Bearkats on Sunday afternoon in the conclusion of the Adidas Invitational at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Catherine Krieger and
Ashley Lewis had 12 kills each, but Rice (4-3) got 26 kills from Nicole Lennon and hit .384 for the match to hand the Kats (6-3) their first 3-set defeat of the season.
Breanne Chausse had 11 kills and
Morgan Janda had 34 assists, while
Hannah Baker had 15 digs.
The Kats dropped the first set, 25-21, but had a pair of set-point tries in the second stanza, but could not convert. Rice then hit .586 in the final set to put it away, 25-17.
Sam Houston will close out non-conference play next weekend whe it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to take part in the Green Wave Invitational. The tournament was originally scheduled to be played in New Orleans, La., but was relocated to the campus of UAB, with Tulane still serving as the host.
The Kats will take on UAB, Tulane and Texas Tech over the weekend.
