Kats play well defensively in loss to Houston

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston soccer team battled Houston down to the wire but missed some scoring opportunities in a 2-0 loss at the Carl Lewis International Complex.

The Bearkats (2-5) finished with two shots on goal, one by Katie Leal and the other by Ashley Friedrichs. The Cougars have not allowed a goal in three straight matches.

Houston (8-1-1) broke a scoreless tie right before the half. Bearkat goalkeeper Tatum Krueger made a diving save on a shot, one of her four in the opening period, but the ball bounced right to Nadia Kamassah who easily scored in the wide-open net in the 43rd minute.

The Cougars increased their lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute. Kamassah scored again then a corner kick was headed to her she was able to knock it down with her knee and strike it past Abby DeLozier, who had three saves in the second half.
