HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston tennis team opened the season in impressive fashion with a doubleheader sweep of Prairie View A&M on Friday at the McAdams Tennis Center.
The Bearkats (2-0) topped the Panthers 4-2 in the first match then capped the day with 7-0 sweep in the finale.
Isidora Zivkovic won both of her matches Friday at No. 2 singles beginning with a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Victoria Castillo. She picked up where she left off with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Castillo in the second match.
Newcomer
Andjela Vidovic won her first match as a Bearkat by knocking off Ruju Chauhan 6-2, 7-6 at No. 3 singles. She then moved to No. 1 and defeated Abrielle Leslie 6-2, 7-6.
Sahithi Vutukuru earned wins at both No. 3 and No. 5 singles. She stopped Jada Hill 6-2, 6-0 in her opening match and made quick work of Chauhan 6-1, 6-2.
Sunskrithi Damera also picked up a pair of wins Friday. Playing at No. 6 singles in the first match, she took down Claudia Medina 6-4, 6-4 before she easily defeated Hill at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Lusine Chobanyan made it to the winner's circle in the second match by cruising past Medina 6-1, 6-1.
Petra Kaszas stepped into singles action at the No. 6 spot in the second match to hand Anette Lira a 6-3, 6-4 setback.
Sam Houston won the doubles point in the second match as
Megan Basson and Kaszas rolled past Leslie and Hill 6-1, and Chobanyan and Zivkovic stopped Chauhan and Garcia 6-3.
