ORLANDO — The Sam Houston women's basketball team gave Central Florida all it could handle but the Knights were able to pull away late for a 67-55 victory at the Addition Financial Arena on Thursday.
The Bearkats (2-4) fell behind by 12 in the second quarter but closed the half strong. Sam Houston eventually put together a 10-0 run to take the lead at 26-25 thanks to baskets by
Tierney Coleman,
Adriana Djokovic and
Kenyal Perry with just under three minutes to go in the half.
Central Florida (6-0) closed the second quarter with a 6-2 run to regain the advantage at 31-28.
The Knights led by as many as eight in the third quarter, but the Bearkats cut it to 44-42 on a layup by Raane Smith with seven seconds left. Central Florida then outscored Sam Houston 23-13 in the fourth to seal the victory.
Perry was the Bearkats' leading scorer with 12 points.
Madelyn Batista and Coleman each scored seven points, and
Chyna Allen and
Mikayla Woods both chipped in six.
Sam Houston stays on the road to play at Florida A&M on Saturday at 1 p.m.
