HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston head coach
K.C. Keeler announced the addition of 25 student-athletes for the upcoming 2023 season on Thursday during the early signing period.
This is a historic class as the Bearkats begin play in a new conference next season. Sam Houston will officially become a member of Conference USA in July after playing in the WAC the previous two.
"We didn't have the momentum of winning a national championship or winning 21 straight games in a single calendar year, but what we did have was three bye weeks and our staff took advantage of that and we were able to hit a lot of areas recruiting," Keeler said. "We have a couple of spots left to fill, but we fell pretty good about having most of the class put together. It really is a good mix of Texas high school guys, junior college and some portal guys."
The class includes 14 Texas high school prospects and 11 transfers. The Kats signed a quarterback, six skill position players, seven offensive linemen, three defensive linemen, one linebacker, one tight end and seven defensive backs.
