Bowlers receive invite to USBC Sectionals in Dallas

For the first time in program history, the Sam Houston bowling program is participating in the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. Wednesday afternoon they were selected to participate in one of the four sectional qualifiers for the ITC Championship in April.

The NTCA No. 2 ranked Kats will head to a familiar venue, when they go to USA Bowl in Dallas March 12 and 13. USA Bowl has been the site for several Southland Bowling League Championships, including the Kats' 2019 title.

They were most recently at USA Bowl this month for the Lady Techster Classic hosted by Louisiana Tech.

"We are looking forward to competing in the sectional for the first time in program history," said head coach Brad Hagen. "The fact we are going to a facility we are very familiar with will be a huge boost for us."

The Kats took part in a USBC Tier 1 event at the start of the season, coming away as winners of the Mid States Championship hosted by defending ITC national champions Wichita State. The Kats outlasted the 26 team field to grab the No. 1 seed in the bracket play. They then rolled to three five game victories in the single elimination bracket play to take the title.

At the sectional qualifier in Dallas, the Bearkats will be joined by College of Saint Mary, Grand View, Iowa Central CC, Kansas Wesleyan, Midland, Morningside, Newman, Oklahoma Christian, Ottawa-Kansas, Stephen F. Austin, Tulane, Webber International and Wichita State.

The four sectional qualifiers will take place March 12-13 at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois; USA Bowl in Dallas; Poelking Lanes South in Dayton, Ohio; and Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Sectional assignments are based on Team Ranking System (TRS) points earned during the season. USBC Collegiate attempts to place no more than two of the top eight schools, and no more than four of the top 16 schools, in a sectional, based on the final TRS totals.

The sectional format returns to 64 Baker games in 2022, with 32 games taking place each day. Total pinfall will determine which teams advance to the ITC.The top teams from each sectional will advance to the ITC, which will be held at Addison's Stardust Bowl from April 20-23.

The Bearkats will be back in action this weekend when they head to Greensboro, N.C. for the Stallings Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T.
