The Bearkats posted a 4-1 record on the opening day of the Stallings Invitational in Greensboro, North Carolina.Â
Â
They sit in fourth place in the overall standings, with a 196 average. Vanderbilt is outpacing the field on the opening day posting a 210 average.
Â
The only loss of the day for the Kats was the final match against the hosts, No. 6 North Carolina A&T.
Â
"We got our day off to a really good start," said head coach Brad Hagen. "There at the end, we had two bad games and you can't do that against a good team like A&T."
Â
The Kats opened the day with wins over Tusculum, Howard, Belmont and No. 16 Maryland Eastern Shore. Their best match came near the end. In the win over UMES, they posted an 1152, which was their only match over 1,000 pins on the day. It was also the third highest score of the day behind Vanderbilt.
Â
The Kats will be back in action Saturday with five more games as they fight for a top 4 finish to qualify for the championship bracket. Â
