HUNTSVILLE — Brodie Quinlan cleared the bases with a double in the bottom of the fourth inning to help Sam Houston snap a 13-game losing streak with a 6-5 victory over Abilene Christian Saturday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
Â
The Bearkats (10-23, 4-5 WAC) were able to salvage a three-game series with the win after losing to the Wildcats (17-15, 8-4) in the first two games on Friday.
Â
Trailing 4-2 heading into the fourth, Sam Houston got the key plays it has been looking for during this recent cold snap.
Â
Brailey Wasik walked to lead off the inning and Kelsey Bunch was hit by a pitch. Emily Telg then grounded into a fielder's choice but the shortstop made an errant throw to third which allowed pinch runner Ellie Grill to score.
Â
Jordan Peno was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After pinch runner Kenzi Lange was forced out at home on a fielder's choice, Haleigh Carter walked with two outs.
Â
Quinlan came to the plate and ripped a double down the right field line to put the Kats on top 6-4.
Â
Mika Vento came on in relief and allowed one run in three innings to earn her fifth victory in the circle this season. She retired the Wildcats in order in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts and a ground out.
Â
Sam Houston's other runs came on a solo home run by Wasik to left in the second and a fielder's choice in the third.
