Kats to host UTSA in exhibition match on Wednesday

HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston volleyball fans will get their first look at the 2022 version of the Bearkats on Wednesday when the team hosts UTSA in an exhibition match at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.

The match is set for a 4:00 p.m. first serve and will be free admission for those wishing to attend. The teams are set to play five full sets.

It is the only tune-up on the slate before the Kats officially kick off the 2022 season at the K-State Invitational on August 26-27 against Kansas State, Florida A&M and North Carolina State.

The Kats will not be on their home floor again until August 30 when they host Prairie View, which is the only match at Johnson Coliseum until hosting Stephen F. Austin on September 24.

Coach Brenda Gray's team is coming off a 19-win season in 2021 that saw the team claim the WAC Southwest Division title and earn a berth in the NIVC.

The Kats welcome back 10 returners from that squad, including all-WAC libero Hannah Baker, middle blocker McKenzie Morvant and outside hitter Catherine Krieger who was named to the all-tournament team at the 2021 WAC Tournament.
