Soccer adds standout transfer

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston soccer coach Sonia Curvelo is pleased to announce the addition of a standout transfer to the 2023 signing class.

Tiana Johnson has joined the Bearkats following a breakout freshman season at Arkansas Pine Bluff. The Sacramento, California native was the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection.

"Signing Tiana offers our team more power and speed and a quality player that can consistently score goals which is a reason we signed her," Curvelo said. "She is strong academically and wants to win championships and compete in the NCAA Tournament. She has already earned offensive player of the year as a freshman in a D1 conference, and I know she will make an immediate impact."

Johnson scored 12 goals this past season and had three assists as a forward. Four of her goals were game winners and she finished the year with 44 shots on goal while playing 1,444 minutes.

She attended Monterey Trail High School and played club for Davis Legacy.
