Huefner tabbed preseason All-CUSA

DALLAS — Sam Houston junior Cameron Huefner has been named as a preseason All-Conference USA selection, the league announced Thursday ahead of next week's basketball media days in Huntsville, Ala.

Huefner had a breakout season as a sophomore transfer from Pittsburg State in 2022-23 to help guide the Bearkats to the National Invitational Tournament and first-round victory over Santa Clara.

He was named to the All-WAC newcomer team last season after averaging 9.8 points per game, which was third on the team. Huefner shot 42 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from behind the arc.

The Bearkats have been picked to finish sixth in the 2023-24 CUSA preseason poll as voted on by the league's coaches. Sam Houston picked up 38 points.

Liberty (five first-place votes) and Middle Tennessee (one first-place vote) were picked to win the conference with 71 points followed by Western Kentucky (two first-place votes) at 63, Louisiana Tech (one first-place vote) at 48, UTEP 41, SHSU, Florida International 31, New Mexico State 30 and Jacksonville State 12.
