HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston jumped out to a quick lead but could not hold on in a 3-1 loss to UTEP at Johnson Coliseum on Friday evening.
The Bearkats (7-15 overall, 1-8 in Conference USA) were impressive in winning the first set when
Alyssa Fielder tied the match at 26 with a kill off an assist by
Hannah Baker. Two straight attack errors put Sam Houston on top 1-0.
The Miners were able to pull away in the second set 25-21, the third 25-17 and clinched the match with a 25-18 victory in set four to seal the victory.
Avery Fowler reached a career milestone in the match by surpassing the 1,000 assist mark with 25 on Friday.
Payton Woods knocked down a career-high 21 kills,
McKenzie Morvant had seven and Fielder and Jaylibe Garcia-Rosa each added six.
Camryn Weldon finished with 11 assists and Baker had 19 digs.
The two teams play again Saturday at 2 p.m.
