HUNTSVILLE — For the second straight day the Sam Houston Bearkats took Set 1, but surrendered each of the next three as Liberty rallied back to pick up a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum. 

Hailey Heider led the Kats with 10 kills, but Sam Houston (7-20, 1-13 Conference USA) hit just .099 for the match as a team, despite swinging at a .212 clip in a 25-21 win in the opening frame.  

The Kats also got a solid match from McKenzie Morvant with eight kills and a team-high five blocks, but Liberty (13-11, 6-6 Conference USA) got a 20-kill effort from outside hitter Kamryn Bacus to pace an offensive effort that saw the Lady Flames finish with 63 kills to just 35 for the Kats. 

Avery Fowler had her second straight double-double of the weekend with 18 assists and 16 digs, while Hannah Baker added 13 digs of her own. 

The match was the final match of 2023 at Johnson Coliseum for Sam Houston. They will finish out the regular season on the road next weekend with a pair of matches in Las Cruces, N.M., vs NM State beginning Friday evening.
