Two Kats earn CUSA soccer season honors

DALLAS — The Sam Houston soccer program had a great turnaround this season and two players have been recognized for their play on the field.

Ariana Carrington and Solae Young were named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team, the league office announced on Tuesday. The duo helped the Bearkats earn the fifth season in the CUSA Tournament which begins Wednesday.

Carrington has played a big hand in Sam Houston's turnaround this season. The midfielder from Denton was a standout in the Bearkats' CUSA opener, scoring the game-winning goal when she slipped past a diving goalkeeper and found the bottom left of the net in the 44th minute.

She also scored the game-winning goal in her very first match, a 4-2 victory over Prairie View in the season opener. She created opportunities for her teammates as well, assisting on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Louisiana Tech.

Young has provided a spark off the bench for Sam Houston. Her biggest moment this season was when she scored an equalizer in a 2-2 draw with Rice.

The forward from Sugar Land scored the game-tying goal against Prairie View in the season opener as the Bearkats would eventually win 4-2. She is constantly on the attack when she is in the match and has helped create opportunities for her teammates.
