RUSTON, La. – The Sam Houston soccer team will begin its Conference USA Tournament run against FIU on Wednesday at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.
The match is set to be aired on ESPN+ with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. from the Louisiana Tech campus.
This will be the second time the Kats and Golden Panthers face off, the first match being a 3-0 win for the Panthers on Sept 21 in Huntsville.
Wednesday will be Sam Houston's inaugural appearance in the CUSA conference tournament, where they will enter as the No. 5 seed after their 5-6-4 (3-3-2) finish to the regular season.
Coach
Sonia Curvelo's team picked up a key win against sixth-seeded Louisiana Tech before forcing draws against top seeded NM State and UTEP to close out the regular season.
The Kats are led by
Kennedy Baquero and
Pam Murray who have each scored four goals this season. Freshmen
Ariana Carrington and
Solae Young have also been key contributors for the Kats, earning Conference USA All-Freshman honors.
Sam Houston's
Savannah Hall goes into the tournament leading all CUSA keepers in saves per match with 4.73. Her 52 total saves ranks fourth in CUSA and she has two of the top three game high performances among all CUSA goalies with 11 saves against ULM (8/20) and 10 saves against Rice (9/7).
