
SHSU to honor 2023 Hall of Honor Class on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE - Seven familiar faces will be inducted into the Sam Houston Letterwinners Association Hall of Honor this Saturday, November 4.
The 2023 class, consisting of Luke Prihoda (baseball), Britni Martin (women's basketball), Michelle Secours (bowling), Lane Dennis (track & field), Alyssa Dooley (track & field), Landa Stewart (women's golf) and Boney Watson (men's basketball) will be publicly recognized at the noon football game against Kennesaw State at Bowers Stadium.
The class will also be recognized at the Hall of Honor Reception on campus in the White Ballroom of the Lowman Student Center on Saturday after the game. The event will begin with a social welcoming for attendees beginning at 3:30 p.m. with the official program honoring the inductees scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served, with tickets available for $25 per person. Tickets for the event may be purchased by contacting the Sam Houston Ticket Office at (936) 294-1729.

Luke Prihoda
Baseball • 2006-2007
Luke Prihoda made 63 career appearances, with three starts, while posting a 10-9 record with 22 saves, a 2.44 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 129.1 innings in his two-year career at Sam Houston.
He was named the 2007 NCBWA Stopper of the Year as the top closer in the nation while posting a 7-3 record with 18 saves, 1.61 ERA, 65 strikeouts and a .207 opponent batting average in 35 appearances. He was a 2007 NCAA All-America, the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year, All-Southland Conference First Team and named to the Southland Conference Tournament all-tournament team.
He helped lead the Kats to the 2007 Southland Conference Tournament title, the first of three consecutive for SHSU, and a berth in the NCAA Oxford Regional before being selected in the 24th round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Britni Martin
Women's Basketball • 2007-13
Britni Martin played in 122 games, making 101 starts in her Bearkat career. She averaged 15.0 points per game, 4.5 rebounds and finished her career ranking second in program history with 1,834 total points while also adding 549 total rebounds, 311 made 3-point field goals 459 assists and 210 steals.
Martin was a three-time all-Southland Conference first-team selection and holds the SHSU career record with 311 made 3-point field goals, a mark which is 48 more than any other Kat. She also holds the SHSU career record with 451 made free throws, ranks second at SHSU with 459 career assists and averaged double-digit scoring all four years as a Kat, including a career-best 17.4 points per game for the 2011-12 season.
Michelle Secours
Bowling • 2011-13
In her two seasons, Michelle Secours helped guide the Sam Houston bowling program to back-to-back top-10 national rankings. As a senior, Secours was named as an honorable mention 2013 National Ten Pins Coaches Association All-America selection. She sported an NCAA bowling total pins average of 199.5 and was selected to the all-tournament squad at the Music City Classic.
Secours concluded her junior debut leading the Kats in average at 196.88 for 40 games and adding officially two-NCAA All-Tournament Team selections to her resume. The most memorable one was at the Bearkats home tournament, where Secours provided a 2011-2012 NCAA Season high single tournament average of 244.80 for 5 games at the inaugural TRACK Kat Klash that later assisted the Kats to win its first tournament championships of the 2011-2012 season.
Lane Dennis
Track & Field • 2005-2009
Lane Dennis was one of the most decorated sprinters in Sam Houston history, dominating the 400-meter hurdles in the Southland Conference during his time as a Bearkat. He helped the Kats win the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2005 as a freshman when he placed third in the 400 hurdles and was a member of the gold-medal winning 4x400-meter relay team.
Dennis would go on to win the 400 hurdles at the SLC championships three straight seasons from 2007-09 and won the 4x400 relay championship again in 2008. At the SLC Indoor championships in 2005 and 2007, he also was on the winning 4x400 relay teams. He finished second at the NCAA Regional Finals in the 400 hurdles in 2009, and placed 14th and 13th, respectively, in the event at the NCAA Championships in 2008 and 2009.
Alyssa Dooley
Track & Field • 2010-14
Alyssa Dooley finished the 2014 season ranked atop the Southland Conference in the 800 meters and 1500 meters. She secured first place in both events at the 2014 Southland Outdoor Championships and is the Sam Houston record-holder in the 1,500-meter run after capturing time of 4:26.06 at the 2014 Mt. SAC Relays. She was the 2013 Southland Conference indoor champion in the mile (4:58.71) and the distance medley relay.
Dooley also excelled for the Kats at cross country as the Southland Conference runner-up at 2012 Cross Country meet with time of 21:07. The All-Southland Conference performer was the top finisher for the Kats at her last two Southland cross country championships.
Landa Stewart
Women's Golf • 2006-11
Landa Steward appeared in 45 tournaments and carried a 78.20 stroke average in 124 rounds played as a Bearkat. She was honorable mention All-Southland Conference in 2007 and 2008. She finished sixth at 2008 SLC Tournament and fifth at 2007 SLC Tournament and picked up her first two career victories as a senior when she won the Harold Funston Invitational and the Hal Sutton Invitational.
She scored a collegiate best round of 67 at the Arkansas State Tournament in 2007 and her fifth-place finish at the 2007 Southland Conference Tournament at Horseshoe Bay helped lead the Kats to the tournament title.
Boney Watson
Men's Basketball (1997-2000)
Boney Watson is second in Sam Houston history with 569 career assists and is third in steals with 191. He scored 948 career points, which is 34th all-time in school history. He is 10th in school history with 147 career 3-point field goals and ninth in attempts at 422.
He was a second-team All-SLC selection in 2000 when he helped the Bearkats win the regular season Southland Conference championship, the first of three in head coach Bob Marlin's career at Sam Houston.
