SAN MARCOS — Sam Houston capitalized on opportune turnovers that led to a 66-52 victory over Texas State at Strahan Arena on Tuesday.
Three Bearkats scored in double figures in the victory. Diana Rosenthal led the way with 19 points, and Sydnee Kemp had 17 points including four 3-pointers. Kaylee Jefferson added 11 points, and Raanee Smith lead the team with six blocks on the night.
Sam Houston led for most of the game until the Bobcats rallied to go up 53-50 with five and a half minutes to go in the game. Kemp got the Kats right back on top when she knocked down a 3, and Rosenthal converted an old fashion three-point play to make it 55-53.
The Kats led by as many as eight twice in the final few minutes to come away with the win, mainly by forcing 26 Texas State turnovers that resulted in 24 points.
The Kats will return home to face UTSA on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the game being streamed on ESPN+. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.gobearkats.com.
