Bearkats struggle in Lubbock
LUBBOCK — Nothing went right for Sam Houston in a 96-60 loss on the road to Texas Tech at United Supermarkets Arena on Thursday.
The Bearkats (6-8) struggled to get their game plan into motion on both ends of the court throughout the game. Offensively, the Sam Houston shot under 40 percent from both the field and from behind the arc.
The Kats also committed 15 turnovers that slowed down their offense. Defensively, Sam Houston did not fare much better, allowing a season high in points and giving up 15 3-pointers to the Red Raiders (10-2).
Early in the contest, the Bearkats were able to hang around thanks to an early five points from Davon Barnes as well as a Damon Nicholas Jr. layup to pull within a one point. In under two minutes however, that soon ballooned into an eight-point lead for the Red Raiders, who never looked back after that point.
Barnes led the Kats in scoring with 18 points, Marcus Boykin was the only other Kat in double figures with 10 points, and Anthony Wrzeszcz had nine points off the bench. Kian Scroggins led Sam Houston in rebounds with six.
The Bearkats will be back home at Johnson Coliseum to face Dallas College on Jan. 2 with tip-off set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
