Kats in third at Mid Winter Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. — The Sam Houston bowling team is in solid position following day one of the Mid Winter Classic at the Jonesboro Bowling Center on Friday.

The Bearkats went 4-1 in baker matches to finish with 5,305 total pins. McKendree University is in first place at 5,367 and Louisiana Tech is second at 5,306. Arkansas State is fourth at 5,282 followed by Maryville (5,274), Youngstown State (5,202), Nebraska (5,184), Lincoln Memorial (5,053), Stephen F. Austin (4,984) and Wisconsin-Whitewater (4,949).

"A great start to the weekend," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We've had great ball reaction and hope to continue to see the right shapes. The lanes have been very readable, and our crosses have been mostly good which makes things a little easier for us pair to pair.

"We're in a situation where every win is one step closer to our end goal and postseason opportunities."

Sam Houston opened the day with a 1,051-1,022 loss to SFA but bounced back to win its next four. The Kats topped Maryville 1,096-960, Tusculum 991-847, Central Missouri 1,064-971 and Kentucky Wesleyan 1,132-1,003.
