CORPUS CHRISTI — The Sam Houston tennis team lost a dual match 7-0 against former Southland Conference opponent Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday.
Megan Basson came close to picking up a win at No. 1 singles. She took the first set 6-3 but came out on the wrong end of two hotly contested sets 7-5, 15-13 to fall to Emma Aucagne.
Paula Cerda also won her first set 6-1 at No. 2. The Islanders' Naomi Moi McKenzie was able to pull out the next two 6-2, 7-5 for the win.
Sahithi Vutukuru also went three sets before eventually losing to Valeria Cherfus 6-1, 0-6, 6-2 on the fourth court. Sofia Pinto defeated
Anastasia Khokhlova 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5.
Vianne Schwab lost to Victoire Delattre 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5, while
Aaliyah Hohmann lost to Kateryna Rublevska at No. 6 6-0, 6-1.
The Islanders won the doubles points with victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
The Bearkats will face Rice on Saturday at 11 a.m. before opening WAC play against Stephen F. Austin on March 19 at 1 p.m. at the McAdams Tennis Center.
