Kats coast to title at Bayou City Classic

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston men's golf team ran away with the Bayou City Classic at the Westwood Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Bearkats won the event by nine strokes after firing rounds of 277-281-281 for a 25-under 836. Houston finished second (16-under 848) followed by Lamar and Oral Roberts (9-under 855), UT Arlingon (6-under 858), Rice (2-under 862), ULM (even 864), UTSA (2-over 866), Abilene Christian and Southern Miss (17-over 881), Southern Illinois (18-over 882), Louisiana (20-over 884), Stephen F. Austin (24-over 888), Incarnate Word (28-over 892), UTRGV (30-over 894) and Houston Christian (40-over 904).

Bret Gray claimed the individual championship. He shot rounds of 69-66-70 for an 11-under 205.

Samuel McKenzie also posted a top 10 finish. He shot rounds of 70-72-68 for six-under 210.

Josh German was 11th with rounds of 71-70-72 for 3-under 213. Jack Randle was right behind him in 12th with rounds of 74-72-68 for a 2-under 214.

Kristopher Max tied for 19th with rounds of 71-73-71 for a 1-under 215. Ting-Wei Hsieh tied for 29th with a 1-over 217 following rounds of 67-76-74 for 217. Nathan Weber tied for 63rd with rounds of 78-73-74 for a 9-over 225, and Gene Chaikangwal tied for 79th at 15-over following rounds of 78-77-76.
