Baker to attend WNT event

Sam Houston junior libero Hannah Baker was chosen to attend the USA Volleyball's Women's National Team Open Program this week in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Baker will receive training from the U.S. Women's National Team staff: head cCoach Karch Kiraly, assistant coaches Erin Virtue (head coach at Michigan), Tama Miyashiro and Alfee Reft (head coach at UCLA), among other volleyball coaches.

USA Volleyball uses the WNT Open Program for selection consideration for the Women's National Team and the Women's Collegiate National Team. In 2023, members of the U.S. Women's National Team will compete in the following events: Volleyball Nations League, Paris Olympic Qualifier, Pan American Cup and NORCECA Continental Championship.

"I'm beyond grateful to have the opportunity to train with the WNT," Baker said. "I'm excited for the experience to grow as a player and to play next to girls that are the best of the best."

Baker is on pace to break every defensive record in Sam Houston volleyball history. Additionally in 2022, Baker became the first player in the NCAA with 50 digs in a match since 2015. Since her arrival her name has been known in each conference; Southland, WAC, and now Conference USA.

"This opportunity will create a positive impact on Hannah's volleyball career," Bearkats head coach Brenda Gray said. "She will be among the best minds in volleyball and compete at the highest level in our sport. We are so proud Hannah is representing Sam Houston State."
