Athletes prepare for future after playing career

One of the main goals for the Sam Houston athletic department is to help prepare the athletes for a future after college.
The Student-Athlete Academic Services department has partnered with Bearkat alum, Brian Starr, to provide a networking opportunity for upperclassman athletes nearing graduation.
Starr is a former football student-athlete from 2000-2002 who has built a successful career as an audit partner with Whitely Penn. His mission is to mentor student-athletes and connect them with alumni that can provide them with resources as they prepare to enter the workforce.
The department will be hosting a Bearkat athletic alumni panel with former athletes from SHSU to discuss obstacles for student-athletes transitioning into the workplace.
This will give an opportunity to student-athletes to talk with alumni who have similar experiences. The panelists' career fields range from different areas such as accounting, operations, finance, education, coaching and entrepreneurship. The five panelists for the evening are Starr, Keith Davis, Kristina Dube, Lance Hancock and Wyatt Powell. Chris Thompson, Senior Associate Athletic Director, will be the moderator for the evening.
This event is going to be for juniors, seniors, and graduate students. It will be held on March 20th from 6:30-8:30pm in CHSS room 120. Following the event, there will be snacks and refreshments for the athletes and panelists to provide the opportunity to network and ask any additional questions.
