Hewitt tabbed WAC Pitcher of the Week

ARLINGTON — Sam Houston reliever Logan Hewitt came up clutch in game three of a series-clinching victory over No. 25 Grand Canyon to earn Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.

He allowed only two earned runs in 8 1/3 innings of relief this week in a 7-6 loss to Baylor on Tuesday and a 4-2 win against the Lopes on Sunday. Hewitt (2-1) was key to the 4-2 series-clinching victory over GCU as he shutout the Lopes for 4 1/3 innings to earn the win after GCU tied the game at 2 in the fifth inning before he came on in relief.

Hewitt only gave up three hits and finished with seven strikeouts in his two appearances last week.
