Kats topple Utah Tech in dual match

THE WOODLANDS — The Sam Houston tennis team picked up a Western Athletic Conference dual match victory by knocking off Utah Tech 4-1 on Thursday at The Woodlands Country Club Indoor Facility.

The Bearkats (5-10, 2-4 WAC) rolled through the singles competition to clinch the match after losing the doubles point.

Paula Cerda sailed past Ya Chi Hsu at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1. On the second court, Antastasia Khokhlova took down Rachel Mellor 6-3, 6-3.

Sahiti Vutukuru rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Angelina Venkatakrishnan in the third spot, and Vianne Schwab rallied after dropping the first set 2-6 to Annemiek Sterk to win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Sam Houston will host Seattle U on Saturday at 11 a.m.
