Davis slugs his way WAC weekly honor

ARLINGTON — After a monster week at the plate, Sam Houston first baseman Tyler Davis has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.

Davis hit .642 in four games with eight RBIs, eight runs scored, two home runs, four doubles, two walks and two stolen bases. The Bearkats went 4-0 last week with a 9-2 midweek win at Texas A&M and a sweep of Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches where they tallied 54 hits and drove in 46 runs in the series to improve to 27-18 on the season and a league-leading 18-6 in WAC play.

Davis went 2 for 4 with a run, two RBIs, a double, and stolen base in the win over the Aggies. He was just heating up.

In the SFA series, he was 5 for 7 with a pair of doubles, a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored in a 21-5 win in the opener. Davis went 2 for 5 with three RBIs, a home run and two runs scored to help Sam Houston secure the series win with a 17-2 victory in game two.

To put the finishing touches on the Lumberjacks, Davis was 2 for 3 with two doubles, an RBI, two runs scored, two walks and a stolen base in an 8-3 win to complete the sweep.
