Conference USA welcomes the Bearkats

No Limits on Us


It's the dawn of a new era for Sam Houston Athletics. Conference USA welcomes the Bearkats, along with Jacksonville State, Liberty, and New Mexico State to join Florida International University (FIU), Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and Western Kentucky in the newly realigned Football Subdivision (FBS) Conference.



After decades of success in Division I FCS, culminating in winning the 2020 National Championship, the Bearkats take on an exciting slate of FBS opponents for its inaugural season in CUSA. Sam Houston will play seven nationally broadcast games and will appear on the CBS Sports Network, the ESPN platforms and FS1. The Bearkats will return to their home away from home when they face Air Force on Sept. 9 at NRG Stadium in Houston. Sam Houston home games include match ups against Jacksonville State, FIU, UTEP, Kennesaw State and Middle Tennessee.
